Blind Man's Bluff: The Untold Story of American Submarine Espionage

No other platform has such a great impact on modern warfare as the "Nuclear powered submarines". They literally changed the way modern naval warfare is fought & gave a new meaning to Nuclear deterrent. Most of the followers of military & strategic affairs will know that one of the most dangerous & thrilling aspect of "Cold war" was based on Nuclear submarines. During cold war, US & USSR nuclear submarines used to play the game of cat & mouse or more precisely of hunter & killer, very little of which is known to people. Many a times these games lead to dangerous situations that brought the two super powers to the brink of war.

One such book which described these situations in great detail is "Blind Man's Bluff". It tells us the untold story of submarine espionage which reads like a spy thriller except that it is completely true. In this book veteran journalists Sontag and Christopher Drew tell a very gripping story. They did a lot of research on these topics & verified each one of them before putting them in the book. Mig: Fifty Years of Secret Aircraft Design

This books is a must read for all aviation enthusiasts especially those like me who are avid admirers of soviet aviation  MiG has almost become synonym for Soviet fighter & has participated in almost all conflicts after World war 2. This book gives a detailed description about the soviet design techniques  philosophies & the various scientific achievements. I think most of the aviation enthusiasts will agree with me that any research on combat aviation is incomplete without studying the evolution of MiG series of aircrafts. MiG series of aircraft ranges from old hog MiG 1 to latest Mig 35. My personal favourite being MiG -21 which holds the unique record of most-produced combat aircraft since the Korean War, and also the longest production run of a combat aircraft.

Authors of this book,R. A. Belyakov (Author) & J. Marmain (Author), provide a inside view of the Mig design bureau- its brilliant accomplishments & the various challenges. The book has very good collection of photographs. Although, this book's original version was released almost two decades back its still one of the best among the books on military combat aviation & definitely a must have for aviation enthusiasts.

Silent Warfare: Understanding the World of Intelligence

"Silent Warfare" provides an excellent introduction to the world of intelligence. This book was released almost a year back, but still it is one of the best book for understanding the foundation upon which the complete deceptive world of intelligence is based on. This is one of the best books that I came across which focusses more on the intelligence theory & the organization. If you are looking for trade craft oriented lessons then this book will disappoint you. Most of the times "intelligence operations" bring to our minds covert operations, black operations, deep cover spies, etc. But we forget that all this depends on how effective the intelligence organization is & the basic methods of intelligence gathering-both humint & techint. Also, the author has provided many examples to make the readers understand the complexity of intelligence gathering & processing.
Authors- Abram Shulsky and Gary Schmitt.
